Harry and Molli

Walking the dog will never be the same

The Brief

This project was based on a relatively abstract brief. Document and communicate a 20–30-minute journey that I take regularly. Communicate the trip so that someone else can experience the journey for themselves.

The journey chosen was walking my two dogs through the local park. Which sounds super boring until you think about it, really think about it, then the ideas start to flow.

The Challenge

Sound simple, right? Maybe and maybe not. The challenge was to allow someone not only to navigate the same journey but also to experience what it would be like to walk my dogs (who, by the way, are completely crazy).

The Solution

The solution to this design challenge began with detailed research. Over several weeks, a significant amount of data was collected. What sort of data can you collect while walking the dogs? Lots. The data was then brought to life with a range of intricate charts along with images, hand-drawn illustrations and descriptions of the journey. To bring everything together, a children’s storybook-style collection of colours and typography, along with a good dose of humour, was used.

The result was a simple, but very amusing book that tells the story of walking Harry and Molli through my local park.
