Bold Branding for a University of the Future.

The Brief

The combining of the University of Adelaide and the University of South Australia is a significant transformation in the structure of our tertiary education organisations. The creation of a university of the future.

And it needs a new brand identity.

This fictitious project was undertaken only months before the formal new identity was revealed, making it a fascinating undertaking, knowing we would be able to compare our work against the final design.

The Challenge

To design an identity that respects the past for both institutions while paving the way for a new university with a new history to make.

The Solution

The design solution was a symbol that resonates with the essence of what Adelaide University offers.

The Adelaide University symbol represents the passage of light through a glass prism, a powerful metaphor for the transformative journey students can experience at Adelaide University. Like the refraction of different wavelengths of light, no two student journeys are the same.

It also signifies the university’s unwavering commitment to research and knowledge creation. Similar to shining light on new areas of discovery, the symbol presents Adelaide University as a beacon of innovation, helping to create a brighter world for tomorrow.

As part of the design process, a range of marketing-oriented communications was created to see how the design might work in the real world.
